New Year's Resolutions

Like most people I usually try to make New Year's resolutions that I never really follow through on. However, I have had a lot of down time on my month long break from grad school and I've been thinking about some resolutions that I might can actually follow through on.

1. Join a gym. At my undergrad school we had an awesome Campus Center with this huge workout area and lots of fun classes, but I never took full advantage of that. A lot of the reason that I didn't work out a lot in undergrad was because I was soooo busy. Now that I'm in grad school, I'm busy, but not like I was in undergrad. I think I want to join a gym because I have some free time that would be better spent exercising and making myself healthier. I'm not unhappy with myself, I could stand to lose a few pounds, but this is more about needing to get in shape. I want to get to a point where exercising becomes a necessity in my life because it will make life much easier for me down the road. Luckily, one of my friends in my class also wants to join a gym so I'm hoping that we can become gym buddies and hold each other accountable.

2. Take more pictures/blog more. I got kind of sad when I was doing my recap of 2011 because I kept thinking of fun things that I did throughout the year that I didn't take pictures of. It's especially hard to take pictures when Robbie and I go somewhere without other friends because I don't want to have to ask somebody else to take our picture. I mean hello, we went to the UGA vs. Boise State game, the SEC Chamapionship, the Georgia Aquarium, and the World of Coke and I don't have any pictures of those fun trips, with the exception of a couple of iPhone pictures. I also want to blog more to help me remember fun things that I do throughout the year. I'm not a consistent blogger, but I would like to write at least once a week even if it's just a short note about what I did that week.

3. Be more intentional in my relationships. This one is kind of hard to put into words, but I read another blog about "loving intentionally" and that is a goal for me. Living in Auburn, I am away from all of my old friends. Yes, I have made some great friends in Auburn; they aren't the ones that this resolution is about. I want to at least pick up the phone and call my old friends every now and then to just catch up on their lives, to know how they are doing in school or their job or whatever they are doing at the time. My first semester went by so fast and by the time my break came I realized how long it had been since I talked to several of my old friends. It's easy to get consumed in the day to day routine of grad school and life, so I want to take time to catch up with old friends and spend quality time with them, even if it is just a phone call.

These are just a few of my resolutions that I hope to be able to follow through on this year!
